Gabriel Urbain Fauré, French composer, organist, pianist and teacher, is often considered the musical link between German Romanticism and French Impressionism. Largely influenced by Berlioz and Chopin – who were both still composing upon his birth – Fauré became one of the foremost composers of his time. His compositional techniques foreshadowed atonal music. Amongst his best known pieces are Pavane, Requiem, Sicilienne and Après un rêve.
